I was wondering if the exhaust manifold on my 95 Protege has a known problem with being broken or cracked? Now that the car is running great, I hear and smell an exh leak around it. While I was looking on eBay, I noticed a lot of different sellers selling manifolds for a 1.5L, which mine is. As a general rule, if it is readilly available on eBay, there must be a known flaw. I am most familiar with Chevrolets, since I worked for a local dealer, and noticed a lot of the common parts that were breaking were all over eBay.

 

Very common problem for the manifold to crack on the 1.5l engine. Pull the heat shroud to double check but probably is.

Just F.Y.I. I just had this problem on my '97 1.5L. It had a cracked exhaust manifold and had to be replaced.
