Default ABS & Brake Lights on - Pls HELP !!!!!

Protege 2002-both lights came on when brakes were applied - trustworthy mechanic examined the car thoroughly & finds nothing wrong with brakes & related parts - he couldn't find a code for the problem. The lights remain on, the brakes feel fine, don't makenoise& I have a 150 mile round trip to make this week. Does anyone have a suggestion or solution? I read 5-7-07 & 5-18-07 comments & hope the computer is not the only remedy. Thank you for your help. Sue

Lights being on is only indicating a fault in the ABS system suew. Brakes will still work like they always have normally but the antilock portion will not activate. Still very safe to drive unless you drive in such a way that your ABS is needed all the time. Need to be able to get the code that was stored for the problem. The TBS pin in the under dash diagnostic connector needs to be grounded and then key turned on and then the ABS light should start flashing out a two digit fault code. Hopefully you mechanic knows of this???

Here is a little more info on getting the codes for ABS as your tech may not have this available Sue W. First diagram below shows which pin to short to ground in the underhood diagnosis connector. The connector is located near the brake master cylinder and has a little gray or black cover over it labeled DIAGNOSIS. Once this pin is shorted to ground then turn the key on and the ABS light should come on, turn off, and then start flashing you a two digit code as is shown in the second diagram below. Long duration flashes (1.2 seconds) are the tens digit and short flashes (0.4 secondes) are the ones digit. If only one code is stored then same pattern will be repeated over and over. If more then one is stored then it will output all codes from lowest number to highest and then repeat the series. Code numbers that are available to be output are 11-14, 22-29, 30, 32-35, 41-48, 51-54, 61, and 63.
Post back with what code(s) you get doing this and will see if we can not get your tech pointed in a good direction.

Default RE: ABS & Brake Lights on - Pls HELP !!!!!

I have the same problem: after driving for several minutes, the ABS and E-brake lights come on and stay on until I turn the car off.
I followed the jumper-cable procedure to retrieve the ABS error codes - 14 & 48. However I can't seem to find an explanation anywhere.

Anybody know what these codes mean?
Thx, Clint

Both codes are indicating a fault in the left rear wheel speed sensor clint. Would start looking there and at least just make sure it is plugged into the vehicle harness.
