I have a 94 Protege LX 5 speed manual with 253,000 miles. For weeks now it has been kicking out of 5th for a while now and has slowly been feeling like it is going in less and less. Today I thought it kicked it out again but when I held it in gear all it would do was grind.
How hard is it to change it out? I don't care about time consuming but is it a hard thing to change? I paid $1000 for this thing and I am not going to put a whole lot of money into this thing (I only use it since my Jeep only gets 9.1 mpg).
If it is a pain what transmissions can go in there in its place? The junk yard has several around the same year but no LXs.

 

It's going to be the easiest to replace it unless u have a press and the correct press plate and installers... The LX doesn't matter just make sure the year is close to the same and that's it's the same amout if gears. They didn't switch transmissions for the last years if the protege
