I just bought this 2003 mazda protege ES 2.0 autostick and it is making a sound like it has turbo. it only makes the sound under heavy acceleration when shift between the gears. What could be causing this noise? how do i know if i have stock turbo? THANKS

 

Probably coming from the trans. I'm not big on diagnosing auto trans issues, but I would recommend letting a trans tech look at it and drive it.

 

Also, a stock turbo would be a manual trans and say mazdaspeed on the trunk. You can check under the hood to see if there is a turbo mounted to the exhaust manifold with an intake pipe going to it and a cold pipe running from an intercooler to the intake manifold. If there is just a pipe running from the air box to the intake manifold, it is not turbo.

 

A pic of the engine bay would help out some to rule out the possiblity of it being boosted. Don't see too many boosted auto proteges around though.

Not turbo. Like I said, have someone look at your trans. That's where my bet would be.
