Default 2002 Protege LX with fuel injector stuck open

My son has a 2002 LX - it's blowing white smoke and has no power (not overheating). Had a mechanic check it and was told the #2 fuel injector is stuck open and needs to be replaced.

I've worked on cars, but not on the Protégé - looking for advice on removal and replacement of the fuel injector.

Thanks!

you need to go to mazdabg.com and download the service manual, section 01-14-20, everything is there! extract here:

FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
• Disconnecting/connecting the quick release connector without cleaning it may possibly cause damage to the fuel pipe and quick release connector. Always clean the quick release connector joint area before disconnecting/connecting, and make sure that it is free of foreign material.
1. Complete the “BEFORE REPAIR PROCEDURE”.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
4. Disconnect the fuel injector connectors and remove the harness from the fuel distributor.
5. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
6. Install in the reverse order of removal.
7. Complete the “AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE”.
