Hi, I have a pretty crapped out oem air intake that has cracks all over from a previous accident. I have been trying to find a oem intake to replace but have had no luck? and I'm not trying to spend $200 on an after market intake. also because of this m check engine light comes on and my tags just expired so this is bad news for me help please

Electrical insulating tape (the soft vulcanizing type, not the shiny plastic type), wound around the offending section, (usually the first few corrugations nearest the engine) will do.
If your splits are accident caused, they may be located elsewhere, or may be lengthwise: the filter box area for example. For the non-circumferential cracks, or hard to get at ones, GOOP (automotive, marine, or even shoe repair), applied with a popsicle stick will do the job. Total cost under $10.
You should be able to pick up a good OEM replacement duct for about $50 from a reputable parts house if you watch E-Bay.
You'll have to reset the CEL, the easiest way being to disconnect the battery for a few minutes while leaving the door open or courtesy light on to discharge capacitors in the electrics/electronics. Reconnect the battery then you'll have to reprogram the radio presets and clock. Good luck.

had air inlet hose crack on 2001 protege 2.0L. local dealer had one in stock, I received in mail and installed,CELwent away after disconnecting neg cable from battery. Oldeng is right , you can fix, but ..... how much tape? did you find all cracks? be sure to check ALL of air intake if accident related. check air box for stress fractures good luck!!
