Default 02 protege5 bogging

hey ya, i got a question. about two weeks ago i was driving and all of a sudden my car started bogging on me. so as soon as i came to a stop it felt like it was gonna shut off and then i accelerated at high rpm it went away. i did'nt think much about it until it started to do it more frequently. then my check engine light turned on. so i took it to a buddy of mine and he ran a scan on it and said it was misfiring. so i gave it a tune up. i changed the plugs, wires, and connectors but it still comes and goes... can someone help a mazda brother out? i really don't wanna go to the dealer and get ripped off. thanks

It sounds like it might be your EGR valve as I just had a problem with that. Theres a "how to" guide on cleaning it on this site and doesnt take more than a half hour so try that.

I agree--the EGR is troublesome on these cars.

The bogging down and CEL flashing occur together because the flashing CEL always means the engine computer has detected a severe missfire and is trying to tell you to stop or get serviced ASAP. Failure to do so could and probably will result in damage to the catalytic converters. What codes are being retrieved? P0300 or hopefully a P0301-P0304. P0300 is for random missfire and is a bit harder to trace down. The others will point you to a specific cylinder or cylinders that are missing.

*** UPDATE ***
hey ya, it's me again.
the random misfiring problem was coming from a faulty ignition coil. i went ahead and replaced them both and reset my CEL. now my baby's back to normal... thanks for ya time and efforts!!
