Default B2200 choke wire connects to alternator / tidbit

Just a little tidbit from my experience, maybe it will help someone. Several weeks ago I completed a rebuild on my '92 B2200. On initial and subsequent start ups I could not get an idle below about 1100-1200 rpm. It started good and easy but idled too high. I could kind of remember it idling too high just before I took it off the road about a year ago. I kept fiddling with the linkage thinking that it was simply sticking and finally realized that you could 'flick' the linkage from the choke and it would idle right on down to a respectable 800 rpm. (on the dash tach) As soon as you throttled up it would again idle too high. The choke was partially closed and obviously not working. After many inquiries locally I found someone at a carb shop that 'knew' something. He told me how to check and see if the choke was getting power with a voltmeter; which it wasn't. And then told me to jump a wire between the positive battery connection to the choke to see if it worked; which made it 'spring' to life, and move, and idled right down. He also told me that the choke wire plugs into the back of the alternator, a single wire, single connection; and were prone to coming loose. THAT WAS IT! You have to be careful of the routing or it will not reach. I had to run it immediately down from the choke between the intake runners and to the alternator. There was not much extra room for error. It will barely reach.

Anyway, maybe this will help someone! Best wishes! -mth

Default RE: B2200 choke wire connects to alternator / tidbit

Great tip mth. Bound to be of great help to someone with an idle speed that won't drop off of cold idle up.
