Auto transmission over rev problem 1990 B2600i
I recently bought a 1990 Mazda B2600i 4x4 pickup. The previous owner had let the truck sit for two years. It was running decently when I bought it and now I am experiencing a problem with the transmission. When the truck shifts from 2nd to 3rd it over revs a bit but is still drivable. Then from 3rd to 4th it really over revs and barely engages in the gear. I took the truck to a transmission shop the other day. The mechanic there took it for a quick drive, only a couple of minutes, and brought it back saying that the transmission needs to be replaced. A friend of mine, who is a diesel mechanic, said that a transmission flush might fix the problem or at least help it out. I have read some articles online saying that a transmission flush could be harmful. I have scoured the internet looking for similar problems with no success. I don’t know where else to turn and to replace the transmission would come close to what the truck is worth. Does anyone have any experience in this?
