Default 1994 Mazda B3000 died while driving, now no spark

Hi everyone, first time posting on these forums and I am in dire need of some help. I have a 1994 Mazda b3000 with the 3.0L straight 6, automatic transmission, two wheel drive. I knew I should not have driven it on the morning because it hesitated a bit then backfired, but it was ok afterwards. But anyways, I was driving on the highway, floored it, made it about 500 feet and the truck just died on me. So I had it towed home and went to check it out, no spark. So I figured ok I'll start with the cheap stuff first, bought a new coil but no luck. Next I changed out the ignition control module still with no spark though. So now I'm thinking that the pick-up in the distributor might be bad, but how can I know/what else can I test? The plug going to the coil (I can't remember the color off hand but if you're facing the firewall it's on the left side of the coil) the power has a signal with my test light when I crank the motor. So any input is appreciated before I drop $80 on a new coil and come back as a failure.
