Default 2004 MPV SUPER low idle - Died while Driving!

Took it into the shop a month or two ago due to low idle while stopped about 500 or less. Plus a low idle while driving/accelorating 1000-1500. They couldn't figure it out and stated couldn't duplicate it. Last night I was driving and it died while I was accelorating middle of a turn and locked the power steering as I coasted to a curb! Has anyone had these problems or do you know what may be causing this?

I have a very similar problem with my 2005 MPV. It dies after accelerating in a turn mostly, but now it dies in routine driving situations. Any word on what the problem might be would be great. Thanks.

Me too me too! My '04 has been doing the same thing on & off for the past 6 months. The first time was this past winter when it would stall in a turn maybe once or twice in a week. Then one day it just wouldn't restart after I filled the tank. Had to get it towed. The guys at the shop actually ended up replacing the battery because they couldn't figure out what else it could be. I thought they were right too because it seemed to have stopped until about a month ago. Now, same thing... started with a turn & stall here and there, then just driving along the road say at 40mph (never had it happen on the highway). Asked the guys about it today as I was having my breaks done and the tech said it sounded like something electrical, but real hard to figure out without the check engine light on. OK, so that's my history - any ideas? Anyone?

I am experiencing the same problem...while driving I lose the steering but not the radio...it stalls but It can't be the battery. It's at the garage and I hope they solve the problem because I just bought the van 2 months ago, used so there is no warrenty. I hope someone can figure out what is wrong.

If the stall is only occuring during coasting or foot off the throttle then the Idle Air Control valve would be highly suspect. If stall is happening at any other time and your foot is on the throttle then IAC would not be the cause.

I have a 2004 mazda mpv van that iIhave been having trouble with. When I am driving down the road the van just cuts off and sterring wheel locks upand I have to restart it. No engine light on either. I noticed that whenI am on the highwayI don't have this problem. Only in the city and I noticed when it's warm. I have not had much problems early in the morning when it's cold. I think it is electrical or a fuse or something b/c sometime I can see the lights come on then they flicker off and it does not cut off. I mean the dash board ligths for the engine etc that come on when you put your key in to cranck the car. Do you know of any other mazda issues like this. I have put in a new battery, took it to the dealer and they said they fixed it, it was a wire lose(imcc wire) not sure. Had pvc hose put on and fuel injection cleaned and still cuts off.

Please help if somes has had this and fixed the problem

I had the same trouble. The problem was carbon build-up around the intake valve that blocked the airflow, causing it to idle too slowly. My mechanic said this was a common problem on MPVs, and suggested that the carbon be cleaned out about every 40,000 miles. Repair cost $200.

Techron or Seafoam. 7 bucks once a month to decarbon valves.
