Default '94 MX-6 engine hissitation.

I bought this car for about a year. My wife drives it but recently the engine light has been popping on and off, and the car is starting to hesitate while driving. It kinda comes and goes. The RMPs will start to flutter sporaticly while driving and at a idle. Any advice??

Thanks

Sounds like misfire. Does it do it at idle?

I'd suggest at idle when it starts acting up in your driveway (if possible) pull plug wire individualy. Find what cylinder is misfireing. You can get a cheap scan tool also hook it up, when it starts acting up retreive the code. Pull individual plug wire, if it isn't that cylinder it will get worse, when you get the right misfire cylinder it won't change, thats the one. Probably a coil pack, which one, perhaps replace them all. If it is a coil pack, I'd replace them all as this problem will return.

I agree with Kevin.
I would take the spark plugs out for inspection.

The Car had the plugs replaced before I bought it. I don't know about the coil packs though...I will try that.

Ford coil packs are very prone to fail.

Especially on a 1994 Vehicle!
Time to change them all! and spark plugs!

When were they changed last? I just read you just got the vehicle a year ago, joys of buying used cars! Replace everything, especially fluids!
Mileage?

I know the plugs were changed before we bought it. That's about all I know though. I changed all the fluids myself. Are the coil packs hard to change? I've never done them.
