We just experienced this with our 2002 MPV. 107K miles. Actually happened to the fellow who rotated our tires. Switch worked fine when I left it with him. Very helpful thread. I think we'll opt for disable, but if stuff like this continues to happen (we've experienced power window and automatic door lock circuit failures), it's time to trade. Electrical problems are the pits.

Default No photos, :(

Just had my first run in w/ SKS. Love all of the info here - but I'm not seeing any of the photos. Just links to stuff that is not there...

I'm also trying to find out which fuse i need to remove. I might end up making a momentary switch for now - if I can solve it that way.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have a 2000 Mazda MPV and could not get my shifter to go into Park and unable to remove the key. I found this thread and between you and "BabyHuey" I was able to get to the Microswitch (correctly named)
It was a pain to get to but once I had it slid out I could see how it worked. I had a bit of a time getting it back in. I used a mirror to see better. Once I finally seated it, I was amazed that it worked. Thanks for your words of wisdom. p.s. my wife was very happy as well!

Hi i was having the same problem and i even called out a locksmith and paid 260 bucks just to find out when i got back in my car and drove around for a bit and then parked to eat, went to shut off car and bammm key was stuck again, called locksmith back out and he tried and said sry someone else will be out 2morrow to put in a new ignition for ya but it is going to cost u another 300 bucks then says sry but i was trying to save u money. I was sooo pissed and stumped i figured i would check the web to see if there was anyone else having this problem, and this post came up. I would like to thank all of you you said pull the hazard fuse cause i just did that about 2 mins ago and the key came right out. Now if there is pic's of the micro switch and what to do to it I would really be thankful.

MAZDA MPV 2001 runs great just in the last week i have this problem and a mass air flow problem any help on how to fix that.

I had same problem as everyone else. I have a 2002 MPV ES with about 125K miles. Key would not turn back past ACC. Removed battery cable was able to turn key back to lock and remove. Not a viable short term solution for my wife. Removed Hazard fuse, This worked as well, only problem, since I replaced Hazard fuse I can not turn key from lock position now. any solutions

Default Stuck key, disabled microswitch

What a great forum with good info. After a bit too much force on the lever by yours truly, the microswitch stopped working in my wife's 2002 MPV. Interestingly, I could not understand babyhuey's photos as they seemed all back to front, then I realised that here in New Zealand we are right hand drive and then it all made sense. Unfortunately I cannot even SEE the microswitch properley, so decided to disable by just pulling the wire from the main connector block (it's a blue wire on this car). Power doors work fine now. As an aside, the car is a Japanese import which has a 2.3 litre 4-cylinder engine - don't think these exist anywhere else except as imports in Oz and New Zealand. Thanks again everyone

When FORD took over, they sure F***ed a lot of the Mazda cars & vans.. Too many times do i see, hear & read issues like this with the ForZda's......

I love my classic 3 & 4 door Mazda MPV's, the 4x4's you can go anywhere in them, and still have a queensize mattress in the back for sleeping comfort, or carry 2 fully inflated pontoon boats, one on the roof, one inside plus the electric outboard & the 4hp gas outboard, fuel tank, jerry can, fishing & camping gear... Can't beat a Classic MPV...
