MPV 2003 - Fuel Filter
Help! Where is the fuel filter located on this year model? The vehicle has been jerking on occasion. When it starts it does it real bad for about 5 minutes or so then stops only to return a little while later. Does this sound like a stopped up fuel filter? If not, any ideas what could be causing it? Thank you in advance for any replies.

RE: MPV 2003 - Fuel Filter
High pressure fuel filter is built into the fuel pump. It is replaceable but would need to remove the fuel pump unit from the tank to get to it. There is a service hole cover under the carpet so you would not need to drop the fuel tank if that is any consolation.
It is very much more likely that the jerking you are feeling is from an ignition coil or coils failing. Extremely common problem with the 02 and later MPV. Have probably replaced over a hundred in last couple of years. Also replace the spark plug as I have been working on a theory that the spark plug breaks down, internal resistance drops very low and allows excessive amperage thru the coil and eventually burns it out. Plug should have around 4000 ohms resistance and 98% of the ones I have been keeping track of the spark plug resistance is down around 200-400 ohms.
The problem with finding out which coil is failing is going to be the hard part. Usually a missfire code would be stored but the MPV PCM does not seem to register missfires unless they are extremely severe. Part of the programming of the dealers diagnostic computer called IDS does have a missfire monitor function that is able to isolate down to which cylinder is missing by actually counting the # and position of any missfires that are detected. Do not know if the aftermarket has this capability.
