Wife left the lights on and ran down battery. Security guard hooked up cables to jump backwards. Vehicle dead. Battery okay. Found main 120A fuse blown. Pulled fuse. Prongs stayed behind. Was able to put new fuse in on top of old prongs to get van home. Prongs will not pull out. Van ran but did not have gauges, radio or turn signals. Is there a release on the main fuse that I am missing or could the prongs be melted in the fuse box? Is there something else that could have burned out? I checked the other fuses and didn't find anything. Please help.

 

On 929 and mx3, main fuse tabs are held in with bolts. You have to pull the fuse block out of place enough to reach the bolts. I don't know how it's set up in an mpv, but hope this helps.
I'd check all ground cables.The battery in my jeep shorted to the hood latch and blew out the positive terminal (battery was in place backwards). I was able to get it home, gauges weren't working right, neither was stereo. replaced battery, same issues. Found a ground strap from engine to body had fried, split in two. Hooked up another ground, and all was good again. Maybe something similar is up with yours...

 

Thanks, yes you have to take out the main fuse box and loosen the bolt on the bottom. That's crazy. Should be easier to change out a fuse than that.

 

lol, agreed. guess its done that way to prevent any chance of fuse vibrating out of place, losing connection, and/or to prevent possible corrosion.

 

Based on the title of this thread, I thought you were going to tell us the hot terminal on the jumper cables started to smoke and melt...cause that's what I happened when I did this one time. ; p
