Default CEL and dead battery

When we got back from vacation, the battery in my 2000 MPV was dead (kids left the dome light on). When recharged and started, the Check Engine light was on? Another interesting coincidence is that the van was at 98,980 miles.

Is this some kind of glitch from the battery, or possibly a preprogrammed 100K service notification? As I don't have diagnostic tools, where can I get the error codes read and interpreted without getting ripped off?

Thanks for any help.

Most likely it will be o2 sensor preheater codes as a low battery will trigger that code. The heaters do not get enough juice to heat up properly setting a code. Disconnect the battery and step on the brakes to clear the codes.
