BABYHUEY----------
Got another question for you- My mechanic who is putting in the new fuel pump/sending unit said my front axles are shot as well. Since this is a 4WD vehicle and not an AWD, how rushed am I to replace them? I have used the 4WD on it and didn't notice anything. I get a nice tax return every year and was wondering if I could wait until next february to change them out then. Your help is appreciated

Well that is certainly one way to get my attention zmanzke Was just heading out of the shop to go home for the night and thought would give one final last check.
Exactly what is meant by "shot"??Are the outer bootstorn open? Grease on the caliper area and sprayed onto inside of front wheel would be an indicator of this.
Do you hear arattle/ratcheting type noise when drivingvery slowlyon a tight turn in either direction while accelerating? Noisewould indicatea failing outer cv joint on either side depending upon which way you are turning and accelerating when noise occurs.
Another somewhat common problem is excessive lateral movement between the left inner cv joint and stub shaft. This is often noticed as a muted thumping type noise at almost any speed driving straight ahead that abruptly stops when the 4WD is engaged. Think I would get it back home and do a little checking if shop is not going to be a little more specific. Should not cost any more later than doing while it is currently in the shop.

The boots are tore, and all the grease is gone. No clicking sounds that a front-wheeldrive makes when the CV is going out. Seems ok to drive for awhile, just wanting an experts opinion. I think I will have to wait, they quoted me $225 a side to replace them.

You might check to see what a quote would be just for the outer boot replacement only and not the entire axle. Remanned axle usually go for around $100-$150. Boot is only $15 and should only be an extra 1/2 hour on top of axle r and r to clean and inspect the joint along with boot replace.
