2004 Mazda MPV shuts off while driving at highway speeds, starts backup idles but wont accelerate. After the vehicle cools off an hour or so later it will start and run fine then a few miles it does it all over again. Someone please help.

 

How does it behave around town?

 

It actually does the same thing whatever the speed limit happens to be . The vehicle cut off only doing 15 mph and at 55 mph the last time at around 45 mph. The problem seems to happen more after I have driven for a while, stopped and shut the vehicle off and heat soak for a while then go again last time I only made it about 1.5 miles.
