Default 2000 mazda mpv heating problem

My 2000 Mazda MPV heater takes about 15 minutes before heat is felt. I suspect it's the heater core. Does anyone out there knows how to replace it? I would appreciate a detailed instruction. Thanks in advance.

It could be the heater core but it could also be low coolant, air pocket in the core or a failing water pump. Check your coolant level first since thats easy and free, if low add some distilled water to the reservoir, if thats ok then feel (if you have access) each heater hose and compare that temp to other hoses on the engine, if they arent getting hot then you have a flow issue. Also where are you that you need heat right now???

MazdaTirol: Thank you for your reply. It's still a few months to winter but I need to be prepared as this problem started last winter. I'll do what you suggested however, if there is a need to change the heater core do you know where to get a DIY manual for the job? Thanks again.
