1998 MPV LX Timing Adjustment
I recently finished a timing belt job and I am having some issues adjusting the timing. Right now the timing mark is around 7+- and it should be at 11+-. Following the shop manual it says to use an SST somewhere under the dash to program it before/after adjusting the distributor. In a few of the videos I found, people said to just jump two of the diagnostic pins under the hood to prevent the ECU from trying to regulate the timing. I have tried this but it seems to not be having any effect. I am able to twist the alternator fully clockwise and counter-clockwise and the timing mark stays the same, idle speed does not flutter or change while I am doing this either. Despite being that far off on timing, the engine sounds smooth and drives fairly well in 1st and 2nd gear, but I notice it leaning out at higher speeds. Does anyone have info on this?
