Default 04 MPV rear heat leak

Located my leak under the car near spare tire (BTW, check your spare mine was completely flat...). The line is rotted away and the leak is getting worst.

I called the dealer for a ball park estimate on how much to replace the lines from the firewall back to the rear heater box (next to rear pass. tire) and they quoted me a price of $700 for parts and $500 for labor.

I don't have $1k+ at this time so I am wondering...

...has anyone had this problem and what was the outcome
...anyone try disconnecting and adding a loop to eliminate the rear heat for quick fix
...any other options to get me by for the time being

It is easily bypassed under the hood where the 2 hoses going into the firewall are keepers to keep the front heater. You can plug or bypass the ones headed to the back heater.
