Default Would not go to 4th gear on Drive

Hi

The car is a 1997 2,5liter. No codes are present but it just will not go to 4th gear. Stays on 3rd and on 60km/h have about 3000rpm. Other gears work fine. Checked oil level and it seems to be high. With cold oil it shows oil level above the level which should be with warm. Should I remove oil? Can this fix my problem?

It goes to 4th when going downhill but when power is needed again its 3rd again.

Looks like this forum is full of guys who can diagnose a problem only when they have a code from the car. Non of can do it by symptoms... Too bad

I don't want an exact answer. Just asking for suggestions.
