P1402 : EGR valve position sensor circuit malfunction.
At PCM connector #3, 3A light green with red stripe, reference voltage 4.5-5.5v, should have the same at the EGR connector. At 3R
red with black stripe, 0.2-4.7volts, using hand vacuum pump connected to EGR valve port, applying vac voltage should change.
Some times carbon can build up under the EGR valve pindle, just enough to make the PCM think the valve is open. Trick of the trade,
remove the EGR position sensor, three small screws, NOTE: with care use a round flat face punch and tap straight down on the pindle
end, looks like a nail head. This usually removes the carbon and seats the valve. This works for small EGR leaks at idle as well.
