I had to replace the engine in my 98 milly 2.5 and I have a leak from the distributor (i'm pretty certain) that I just can't fix. The leak is pretty good 1/2 qt/week and only leaks when car is running. The used engine I bought had one of the hold down bolts for the distributor broken. I first replaced the o-ring on distributor, and leak continued, I the drilled out bolt and replaced, still leaks. Then I removed distrubtor and sanded the metal bases on dist and engine as they looked dirty, but to no avail. What am I missing, I watch the leak happen and it is definitely coming from the distributor base area. Is there supposed to be a gasket or is it metal on metal? Do I dare use some form a gasket? Replace distributor?
