Default newbi here--Broken camshaft----

Hey Im the new guy on the block.....Im a member of several motorcycle forums so I know this is the place for the correct answer.....So here goes My future daughter in law has a 98 Millenia that bit the dust today...They pulled it home and It has broken the cam on the front "grill side" of the engine..It broke just after the belt pulllyyou canjustsee the last few threads of the bolt...I hate to put a cam in it and belts on it just to find out we have valves bent...Its a 2.5 24 valve...I dont know what motors these cars come with so if this is the only one dont flame me......Thanks Matt

A 2.5 is a non interference engine. This means that the valves will not touch the pistons even if the belt breaks or anything. If you are in doubt, I would get a cam for about nothing from a junkyard, just to see if it can make compression before spending all the money on it. Also, when I put my belt and tensioners on my Millenia, I got them at www.getcoolparts.com for $85. Pretty good deal.

Good luck!

Most likely needs a cylinder head but you can remove the valve cover and pull that front cap to check.

What caused the camshaft to break?
