Is it worth it? That depends on how much of the work you will do yourself and what is needed. An engine rebuild will take a lot of time but parts should not be too expensive ( rings, bearings, etc ). Do you know the condition of the Lysholm compressor. If that is leaking oil inside and engine smokes then they are pretty much a non-serviceable item as no repair parts are available. The compressor retails from Mazda for around $3200. Trans rebuilds are often beyond the do-it-yourselfer as many special tools are sometimes needed. Check out a rebuild price from a reputable trans shop before starting if you do not plan on rebuilding yourself. Then check out www.kbb.com and see what the going value for your car is.
