I've had my "Check Engine Light" on for a while as well. I had it fixed at my mechanic who is no longer there. It seemed to be 2 oxygen sensors were not working. Well after a year, the light turned on again. It's really annoying since I had it fix the prior year. I haven't had it fixed yet, but will let you know when I find out what it is this time.

mine came on today as well.. took it to AutoZone and it pulled a vapor code (cant remember the code number) but the AZ person said it was most likely the gas cap. I am not sure i need to reset the CEL after tightening the cap or not.. but will do it tonight and post what i get...

if you fix the problem, the lite will go out. it might take a couple starts. if you erase the lite, then you reset the system readiness monitors, and it takes several drive cycles at different parameters to bring them back on board. if the gas cap dont fix it, this can be hard to find

replaced the gas cap with a new one and the CEL is still on. Should it turn off immediately or should it take a couple of trips.

IF if was the gas cap(which is very common), then it should go off right away. if you disconnect the battery, or pull the room fuse, the ecu will reset. again, it will also reset all the system readiness monitors, and it will take several drive cycles to bring them back on board. if the ce lite then does not come back on, you know it was the gas cap. if the lite comes back on, and throws the same code, then it is not the cap. it is very difficult to find the leak, the easiest way is a smoke machine. a good shop will have one.
