I just bought a 2002 S with 113K miles on it. Seems to run fine except for the mpg. Getting about 17mpg. It needed new front axles and tires all around. Once that was done I went to get it smogged so I could register it. It failed with error codes P0105 and P0300. The seller had a smog cert from 4 month ago but in CA a smog cert is only good for 90 days so I needed one to register the car. I asked him about the smog he got and he mentioned the codes and said the smog tech would fix it. The seller said he had no idea the tech was going to fradulantly pass the car. Here is my problem. In CA the seller is required to make sure the car passes smog when selling. He said he would take the car back and pay me for the axle and tires if the cost to repair is real high, since he would be liable. What is the worst case senario for those codes?

 

The p0105 I believe is the MAP sensor. The p0300 is randum or multiple missfire, check plugs and coils
