Head gasket vs replace motor

Head gasket vs replace motor
I haved owed my 1996 Mazda B2300 for 11 years and it has be a very realible truck. My daughter needed a replacement car quickly so I bought her a used 2002 Mazda Millenia that I thought needed minor repairs, but I felt it would be reliable. I've been told by the mechanic that the head gasket is blown and it is better to replace the motor. He went on about the super charger and that are difficult cars to fix. I could not sink more into the car so I had to find another option for my daughter. My brother needed a car so now we are trying to figure out the best way to repair this car. Any suggestions? He is the more mechanical one in the family.
Problems:
lack of power/speed (can't go over 30 mph)
stutters on accleration
small amount of milky appearance to oil (hardly visable)
splatter of oil arounf the radiator cap
expensive engine
Other than that the car is great.

I have a Millenia 02' also. A year ago I had to have my head gaskets replaced. The mechanic didn't say anything about the engine, just the gaskets. Will the gaskets be cheaper to replace than the engine? If so I'd go with the gaskets. I haven't had any problems with my car since replacing the gaskets. Deb

I would take it to another mechanic. the supercharger should be just fine if the only problem is the head gasket. he is probably trying to talk you into scrapping the motor through him and going with a naturally aspirated motor so that he can sell the supercharger for his back end profit.
