Default Excessive Smoke from Tail Pipe

Hello,

I have a Mazda Millenia S 1996 and I'm experiencing excessive smoke from the tail pipe. Any ideas how to remedy this or what is causing this problem. I'm inclined to think that I might be having oil burning issues.

It seems to smoke more when I first start the car and then tapers off as I drive it.

Thanks,
R

u can easily find out if ur car is buring up oil, just check the oil after a couple of days, if it goes down then u have a problem. that's what i thought my millenia was doing, but it's pretty cold outside right now and my car does it, but after it warms up, it works normal. also, what kind of smoke is it? is it thick and white or darker and stinkier?

if u r burning up oil, u could have bad valve seals, u gotta check compression to see which cylinders r in a bad shape. his is just to make sure that compression is indeed bad, and valve seals aren't the answer. well... technically you can use heavier weight oil, which would prevent it from smoking as much. just make sure it's oil ur smoking. if ur running 10-W30 right now u can do 20-w50. the only thing is that in the winter it's not good to use heavy oil as it doesn't flow as good when the car is cold. if the oil consumption is HEAVY, yeah maybe it's better to do it anyway. I'd get rid of the car though, if it's that bad, as it's only gonna get worse. Then ur spark plugs will get fouled up often, and etc etc etc.
