Default computer

Hi people! I'm back with another question and could really use some expert advice. The battery in my 02 milly (2.5kl eng.) has been remove form the car for nearly 10 months. When I try to start the car it only ran for 10 or 15 sec and died. A home town mechanic told me that for security reasons the car wouldn't start because the computer has lost its memory. I guess there is suppost to be a black box with 8 digits that I have to program in for it to run. Question is can I do this myself or is it to complicated or will the car regain it memory after the battery has been connected for a period of time? Where is the black box? Anybody know. Thanks in advance for any insite you can give me on this issue.

AAHAHAHA. WHERE do you find these people? home town mechanic, eh? i would avoid this person in the future. i think he has craniuminrectum disease.
i just got thru changing out an injector. the battery was out of the car for more than 30 minutes, which erases the memory. prior to that, i had the battery out for 3 days. same thing. started normally. it will run slightly different for a while, because it is relearning. 10 minutes or 10 years, it will start and run. the black box is probably where this "mechanic" keeps his brain.
you have other problems. for instance, if you left gas in the tank, it is now varnish, and the fuel system is fubar.

I agree with Kennin here, but, you may have hope! Make sure you check your relays, after time they can go bad. Especially try the yellow one (I believe it is Yellow in your car), its with the fuse box under the hood. Have your key in the ON position and pull out the relay and push it in slightly, if the relay is good you should hear a slight ticking noise, if you hear nothing, then try and find a cheap one on ebay/junk yard/ or if it is the YELLOW one I could sell you one of my extras.

Somewhere maybe on this board I saw a detailed description. But I couldn't find it anymore. A google search took me to this:
OBD II Drive Cycle (reset car diagnostic monitors )

Hopefully the generic drive cycle will suffice.
