Default 95 millenia falling dead

I have a 95 millenia 2.3 with 189K miles, and I still enjoy driving every new mile. Now I am experiencing a problem. Every time I put the car in drive or reverse from park it falls dead. I can start and idle smooth without any problems but when placed in gear it falls dead. If I place my foot on the brake, raise the rpm and shift in to gear at the same time it try to die down but continue to run. Do anyone have any advice. Every little bit will help.

Thanks Herb

Sounds like your torque converter clutch is locked up. The clutch is designed to lock engine to tranmission to aid in fuel economy. Should only engage if you are driving at steady speed at higher speeds as on the freeway. If it stays locked up at idle then is like putting manual trans in gear and letting out on clutch at a stop. Do you have any lights on in dash like HOLD lite staying on? This will indicate a fault in the transmission control system and may help in diagnosis of your concern.
