Default 2001 Mazda Millenia S

I am having corrosion on the chrome factory wheels, the metal is breaking up and the tires are losing pressure because the bead isn't holding on the tires. There is a tech bulletin #0200401R dated 8/14/01 on wheel corrosion, has anyone else had the problem, I have lost two tires because of this>

Have you considered contacting Mazda customer service and bring up the fact that it was a know problem and you would like some assistance in getting the updated wheels installed. They may just agree to helping out with part of the cost. You never know. At a MSRP of $757.15 each for the 9965-02-7070 updated wheels I would be on the phone!!!!!

that sounds more like a serious wheel problem, I assume you have the chrome? unless your running very low pressure the tires should hold. I would say the wheels haven't been cared for at all, my recommendation is to cut your loses, buy 2 new rims off ebay or something and remount the tires

Sorry to bring back an old thread...

I have a 2002 Millenia... and have the same problem with the chrome rims.
The chrome plating is peeling off very badly. Luckily it is only on the inside of the rim (not the front surface.) What can I do to stop the corrosion before it gets to the surface?

As for "loosing pressure"... before mounting the tire, I scraped off all the peeling chrome from the flange mating surface and applied some bead sealant and it worked.
