'01 2.5L P V6 Cat Converter Problem
Hi, all.
My car failed to pass the state inspection, and the OBD II code was P0421.
This is a catalytic converter problem.
I changed two cat converters befor 80k miles, but now I have to pay forreplacing cat converters.
Autoshop estimates $1150 for repairing ($950 Parts and $200 Labor).
It's too much for me, so I want to replace the catalytic converter by my own with cheaper one.
The autoshop guy said to me that the catalytic converterthat is need to be replacedis "on the bank one side of the engine just after the exhaust manifold on the inside/firewall side of the engine".
When I asked the dealershop, they said to me that there are three cat converters.
The part numbers are,
1. KL1C-20-50XA CONVERTER $537.33
2. KL1C-20-55XA CONVERTER $537.33
3. KL1C-20-600 CATALYST,$785.79
I don't know which of them is the part to be replaced.
Does anyone know what part is "onthe bank one side of the engine just after the exhaust manifold on the inside/firewall side of the engine"?
Moreover, I found several cat converters for 01 Millenia P, but I couldn't know what cat converters can be used instead of those too expensive converters above.
If anyone knows, please let me know what I should buy and whereI can buy in a cheaper way.
Thanks.

RE: '01 2.5L P V6 Cat Converter Problem
the guy said it's on the fire wall side right ? which is in the back of the engine bay, the CATis a part ofthe exhaustmanifold , pain in the neck to change, and you don't want to do it at home.

It will be one of the expensive ones. I got a 95 Millenia right now that has the 2 precats burned through. Alot to change. Thankfully mines a 95 and a check engine light for precats done mean crap.
You cant get them from anywhere but dealer here in georgia. Damn mazda's
If you got a great welder he could weld in near the manifold a precat. then weld in a threaded nut for the sensor after the cat. this would also require you to lengthen the wires to the sensor due to the new cat being down stream from the bad car.
Hope some info helps.
