Default torque steer

Hi, I'm a newbie here, but been Miating for a long time. Mine is a '95 M Ed. w/ 144,000 miles on it. Everything is still ingood shape except the past few weeks I've been noticing some torque steer. The car steers itself slightly to theright under acceleration and slightly to the left when I let off. There is no noticable slack in the steering and braking has no affect on it. I had the alignment redone front and rear but no improvement. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Thanx for any help.

Check the rear suspension. It is pushing the car to one side because of a rear suspension component.

Any car can. Rear wheel drive cars can get it from a rear suspension component loose. When they set up quarter mile cars they have to set the rear up correctly or they will torque steer. Dunno if torque steer would be the right phrase but they can push a car right or left depending on which side has a worn bushing.

Thanx guys for the input. I stopped by the shop today where the re-alignment was done to get the Rt. rear tire replaced as it was a different brand that was on the car temporarily.(same size tho) Once the tire was replaced the steering effect dissapeared completlely. I'm stumped as to why unless there was enough of a circumference difference between the brands to affect the limited slip dif. in this manner. Any thoughts?

Yea tires are a common cause of a pull. The belt shifts inside the tire,i have seen brand new tires cause a pull.

I would have thought it would be less about belt movement and more about weight. The belts within the tire should be pretty secure...I can't imagine they're moving around a whole lot but maybe I'm wrong. I know rotational momentum affects the car a lot and losing a few ounces here and there (just think about when you throw a weight on track) will make a huge difference. Just my humble opinion though.

Probably a bit of both but when you see cars come in for a pull daily and 90% of the time it is a tire pull and the tires are exactly the same and sometimes new you have to conclude a belt shifted..
