Default Sound system

I'm new to this so please bear with me, I recently bought a 1999 miata. Finally lol. Anyway there's no sound coming from the speakers. Original radio, cd, cassette console. I'm waiting on a Haynes book and hoping it will give me some direction. Anyone know where I should start and what to look out for?

Welcome to the forum

The obvious aside from the age it more likely the speakers are toast. So first check power to the fuse. Then maybe pull a door panel and check the OHMs when the head unit is on? If any OHMs then find a test speaker known to be in working condition and jump the leads to your stock speaker.

Haynes may not give you any trouble shooting info but should at least have the wire schematic in the back pages?

I casually looked and you can find a few on the good old www.
AllData I see also has a comprehensive and complete wiring schematic available, but you need to pay for at least a 1 month subscription to get the which is a better choice than a Haynes and you can copy a complete service information for your Miata.

Yeah Haynes manual showed up today, nothing really that helps, other than I need some kind of tool to pull the radio system out? Either way it will be helpful in the future. Seems odd that the system works, just no sound out of any of the speakers. Thank you for your input. I'm not a radio guy, maybe this spring, if I cannot figure it out I'll take it to a radio shop

It may be that the amp is burned out in the head unit. You may be better to look into replacing the head unit and the speakers. Look at bellow suggestions for some idesa on both.

Check the fuse first
Does the head unit power up?
Unlikely all the speakers are bad, I'd guess fuse, or the headhunt needs to be replaced.
