Default Oil pressure reading

I have a new to me 2010 Grand touring with 225,000 miles, automatic trans. At idle in gear the oil gage reads 2-3 lines over low. While driving the gage reads at least half or a little higher. I installed a new oil pressure sender Beach are the old one leaked. The reading is the same with the new sender. Is this a normal reading for this engine?

The correct method for testing oil pressure is to install a remote mechanical gauge to verify results.

Your chosen user name....hmm!? considering CA and such....unless you work or affiliated with the Fire Protect Service?

Yes, thank you. After 30 years in dealership service departments, I am aware of your recommendation. However the response I was looking for was another Miata owner that might have the same reading as I do.

My Wife's 14 GT will run close to LO at idle when the engine is really hot. I'm not sure if it's normal, in fact, it's kind of scary. I haven't had a shop ever look at it. It runs fine and the pressure stays up under all other conditions.

My response would be the same as the one I posted earlier. Once you have the true mechanical readings then you can refer to the engine specification for the oil pressure at various RPM ranges.

Thanks I'll see if I can find the oil pressure specs

Where is a good place to test with a mechanical gauge? I don't have a service manual. Yet.

The oil pressure switch is removed on the oil filter housing, that's where the manual gage is attached
