oil pressure question on a 92' Miata
Hi guys I just got this 92 Miata 1 week ago and Im fixing some cosmetic faults but I notice when I drive that the oil pressure stays at about 32 when idle and when I hit the gas it can go as high as 80 85 just about the limit , what could be wrong ??
Now the oil is old this car was parked for 5 months and who knows when the oil got change before that ,Im going to change it this week ,but could this be the reason or something else is wrong here ..Thanks in advance[sm=smiley20.gif]

RE: oil pressure question on a 92' Miata
Would not rely on dash gauge for accurate pressure measurement. It is primarily there just to let you know you do have pressure. An oil and filter change might help if pressure is in fact too high as 80psi would be. Specs are 28-43 psi @ 1000 rpm and 43-57psi @ 3000 rpm. Max pump relief pressure should be 50-64 psi. If pressure is still showing high after oil/filter change then would get a gauge and install in place of sending unit to see what pressure truly is.

Hi there, you will find that the oil pressure gauge on mx5 / miata's are to all intense and purpose cosmetic. They simply log the fact that there is some pressure there, so if it stays down when you turn the engine on, that indicates a problem, if it goes above the usual position trouble brewing!
You can make it a functioning pressure gauge if you so desire, but it involves quite a bit of fiddling around.
