Default Oil loss

Bought a 1999 used with 55k on it. In a few months found that it was burning oil, at an approximate rate of 1/2 quart every few weeks. No eveidence of leaks. Have 62k on it now. Dealer thinks it may be rings and has recommended engine replacement, or topping off oil when necessary. I've been topping off. But several independents think the milage is too low for the problem to be rings. Any suggestions as to source of problem? Thanks.

Forgot to mention that dealer ran a compression test and said two cylinders have low compression.

Default RE: Oil loss

are you getting oil in the air filter? this would ind oil vapor comming off the valves (worn valve guides/seats). as for worn cly/piston rings i too think the car is low on miles for that issue. i could buy a stuck/frozen ring (it don't float on the piston). try an oil flush kit, just REAL thin oil that takes out the built up carbon and sludge that might be causing the ring to stick. just follow the detructions REAL close, could fry the eng if you don't. if that don't work try something like "eng restore" to help get the compression back up by fillingin whatever gaps there are. lets us know what happens, good luck.
