Need opinions RE: Head Room
My Miata Brethren- Before I go test drive Miatas from all generations- Starting in what production year will I fit in the best? I am 6' 1" with average length legs. I have heard a few answers to this- I'm turning to the best. Thanks! Rob

At 6' I can barely fit in the 3rd (2006+) and 4th (2016+) generation. The first two are too small for me. The last time I drove a 2nd generation, I had to think about the process of pushing down the clutch and how I had to twist my leg to get around the steering wheel each time. The 3rd and 4th generations are tight but bearable. My head rubs against the roof when closed.
I have found that Miatas are much smaller in the showroom than they are on the road. Each time I have almost bought one, I say in the showroom "This is too small, I could never own one." Each time I decide to see how small it feels when I am driving it. Each time, I enjoy the drive so much that when I get back, the thought of the size is not a factor. I will likely buy a 2019+ at some point.
You will likely fit in the later two generations, however, what you intend to use the car for may also be a factor. As a daily driver, it would be too small for me. As a second car, I could adjust to the size.

no problem. the knock on the NC is that it is soft compared to other versions. Easy fix with upgraded springs and shocks which I was planning on doing to mine until I had to sell to get a bigger car. I drove mine stock and it still made me smile every time. Miss that car!

Even the club with the upgraded bilstein shocks is considered 'soft'. I had a GT which also had the bilsteins and I was fine with it. You should test drive one and see if it's too soft for you. If I were to get another miata it would probably be another NC possibly in club trim (or whatever has the LSD) with the intention of installing a flyin miata springs and shock combo.
