Default Miata performance?

We all love the Mazda Miata, right? (just say yes) But we can all agree that it's only slight down fall is it's performance (speed wise). Handling is great, gearbox and clutch are amazing, but it doesn't have that "umph" that other sports cars may have (Like the Honda S2000).

So, for the 2007 model, will there be many performance parts for it like turbos and new flywheels and exhauts and the whole nine yards that the MS3 and the MS6 are getting?

On a side note, if anyone has any facts on how the **** Honda gets 240 hp from a 2.2L Inline..... NATURALLY ASPIRED... please tell me... I'd really like to know how Honda does it.

I drove an S2000 before buying my 2007 MX5. It didn't have oomph, although it did have more power. My understanding is they get the horsepower by lots of revs, and expensive-to-produce motorcycle engineering. Perhaps why the car costs $8k more than a loaded MX5. Didn't matter to me, since I couldn't drive the S2000 with the top up (it made Consumer Reports 10 worst cars for tall drivers list--it also made their 10 worst cars for short drivers list).

Personally, I think the MX5 has a nice balance of torque, horsepower and responsiveness. Too much more power on a 91-inch wheelbase and you'll spend a lot of time looking at the side of the road in your rearview mirror. Of course, that's fun, too.

I guess I have to agree with you. Still, I would like to make my miata unique. I want it to stand out when I've pulled up to another miata owner. It's not like I want 300 hp and 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. I want to look good driving around, and occionally show I smart alec teenager in a lifted truck with oversized tires what a real car is.

If anyone else feels the same way, please do contribute..

Yeah, you guys are all correct. But I think technology today will never stop by providing performance parts, especially our beloved miata... As far as I know there's a latest mazda miata performace parts out there or even eBay. Yes we all wanted to look good driving around but I can never ever compare my miata to others or even sportscar. That's what I feel!!!

The original S2000with the 2.0 liter 4 cyl engine produced 240 hp @8300 rpm and produced 153 lb/ft of torque @ 7500 rpm. Most amazing was the 9600 rpm red-line! The current S2000 with it's 2.2 liter 4 cyl engine produces 237 hp @ 7800 rpm and produces 168 lb/ft of torque @ 6800 rpm. The way these engines are engineered says a lot about the talent at Honda. The original 2.0 liter engine was the most powerful engine of its size and boasted an incredible 120 hp per liter rating. I can not think of any current production engines that can match or betterthe hp per liter but I believe there are several. The way Honda did it was by creating an engine assembled by hand to maintain close tollerences to enable an extreme fuel to air mix of 12/1 (I could be wrong on this figure but what ever it was - it was the highest of any mass produced engine.). Honda's VTEC engine management is active and provides the extra give to allow the engine to sustain such high operating limits. The reason Honda enlarged the engine was to pacify the new buyers (average ages between 46-55) who felt the engine needed to be stronger off the line and produce more power in the mid-range.The hyper 2.0 L engine did not fit the older niche market consumers.
Hope this answers your request.
Happy motoring and Zoom-Zoom!
