The car went back to the shop for the third time. This time they kept it for 3 days and did driving checks on it. After the 1st day they got 16.2 mpg. After the second day they say they got 30.3 mpg. When I asked to see the gas receipts for the second day they claim to have misplaced them. I then asked how there was a difference between the 2 test drives and they claimed it was windy on the first day.I then told them I woulddo a few more tanks of fuel to get more data and it the 17mpg persisted I would have the car checked on a DYNO. At this point I think I will have to file a Lemon Law claim. Does anyone else have mpg's on their MX5 2007 models?

I'd be interested in hearing a little more about your findings. I just purchased an 07 soft top touring...with the 6spd auto tranny. LOVE it so far...but just nearing the end of my first full tank...I'm probably avg. in the low 20's...largely attributed to the dealer probably filling it with regular and engine break in. But I would think after close to 10 fill ups you would be well beyond your period. I know my quick start guide recommends inconsistent speeds for the first 600 miles. We'll see. I'll run my next tank at the appropriate octane and report back.

We got 20 mpg on the highway on 2 occasions. Please keep me posted on how you do with milage. We also love the car except for the mpg.

I would be curious about this on your car...I called the dealer about the concerns on mileage and the person I talked to said that lousy mileage is totally well within the realm of normal in the first couple thousand miles and that it will only improve. I would ask you to fill up and drive normally...then clock how many miles you've gone on one half tank. Start full and take it to the halfway point. I'm pushing just over 130 miles on the clock and have a full tick mark above half left...I am guessing I am in the neighborhood of 25mpg...that seems reasonable for an engine with only 400 miles on it. Then again, I am starting to think I might be reacting to this car having a much smaller fuel tank than my last car...by almost 4 full gallons. We'll see...post up your results when you have them.

Sory to hear of your problem. I'm thinking it could be transmission related. What RPM do you read when at 60 mph? I have a 2007 model with the 6 spd, it reads 3,000 rpm at 60 mph. I have only had this car for 2 weeks as of today, but have logged over 3,000 miles. Gas mileage has never been under 30 mph. At 75 mph, top up running A/C full bore, while traveling down to Florida and back (total 1,600 miles) I recorded average of 32.65 mpg. I also did a trip to New York, variable speeds as some interstate, some secondary roads that go through towns. I recorded 33.73 mph on that trip. Car had 300 miles on it before I left, came home with 1,160 miles (some around town driving).

Hope you get your problem solved. Good Luck!

Traded in the MX5 yesterday. Took a $7000.00 dollar hit on the car! Still had poor gas milage, and was not real happy about driving in heavy rain.Hydroed across 2 lanes at 60 mph.Caused a real butt pucker if you get my drift.

I firmly believe you are not a Miata/MX5 contender. I've owned and sold 129 of em, everyone loves these cars. A heavy rain or misdetected snow storm can cause concern driving most any small rear drive car. The Miata is made for spirited driving on dry roads for the most part. In a heavy rain storm most tires fitted to the Miata do not comply with these conditions. I suggest in the interest of safety you stay away from the Miata. For those of us who know and understand these fine machines, HAPPY MOTORING!!!

I have had my Miata for just a few weeks now and must say everything about the car is great. You gotta love this car!! My mileage has been very good and in fact the last short driving trip we took I averaged around 32 per gallon and that is with a new engine. Very impressive!! Also am amazed how comfortable the car is and I am tall too. To sum it up like you said madzasportscar some people arent made for this car and others are....I happen to be one who is.
