Default Burst of Rotten egg odor

Hi all, new guy here, with a new 2018 MX-5. This morning, my wife reports that the car wouldn't start normally, and there was a strong odor like rotten eggs. After about 5 minutes and some swear words, she tried again, car started fine and ran normally. Anyone have thoughts or know an explanation?

Take it back to the dealer, your car has an issue.

yeah, I think you're right. Research tells me it's either the catalytic converter or an 02 sensor. Warranty will cover. Thanks.

Way too early to be a cat, and the O2 sensor is unlikely; I suspect something is wrong with the electronics, and while you were cranking the engine you flooded the cat with fuel.

So, would flooding cause the blast of hydrogen sulfide odor?
