Default British MX5 (miata) Radio ERR code

Please someone help! My battery went flat and as I bought my MX5 2nd hand didnt have the code for the radio i tried various ones until I got the ERR display. Looking on the forums I found the following

press 6, AM, AutoM, Seek (up). then enter 4989. then press and hold AutoM and 6, should display GOOD.

This didnt work for me. The first part did, I get the -- -- -- -- code entry bit but when I put 4989 then press and hold AutoM and 6 it just goes back to the dreaded ERR display. Any ideas guys? please say you can help as I really dont want to pay my dealer stupid money for what is a 2 min button press session!

thanks in advance

Default ERR Code - 2003 1.8

Made the same mistake, post winter charge and then tried to key the code in whilst driving - oops!

1414 works for me too - thanks for the advice.

My radio (miata mx-5-2000) only has numers 1 to 5 and NoT 6! Is there another way to get my radio going, with a different manner to enter a code???

Help!
Diane
