Default 2001 miata speedometer problem

the needle on my speedometer that measures MPH drops to zero while im driving so i dont know how fast im going....the other gauges work just the needle on the MPH giving me problems....im thinking it may be my speed sensor needing to be replaced... i need some expert advise....btw its a 6 speed manual

You are probably right, See if the cruise control works when it does that. If the cruise works the sensor is working and the problem is upstream.

On your comments, you mentioned the speed sensor? I had that changed last year when my newly installed cruise control was installed. My cruise still does not work. What is the problem? Now my speedometer is bouncing and dropping to zero while I'm driving. Does it need a new speedometer cable?
