Transmission Making Metal
My 2019 CX-9 started making a noise that was random as well as repetitive. It's most noticeable when I let off of the accelerator. At times it sounds almost like a grease gun (slow firing machine gun) The Mazda service center said that there is metal in the transmission pan. The car has 63k miles on it. I heard the noise in the pan while on the lift but it didn't sound like the noise that I was hearing in the car. Anyway, they tell me that I need a new transmission. Anyone else had a problem like this? The transmission shifts fine. Thanks!
This is the first I've heard of such a problem. You are 3,000 miles past the powertrain warranty. Try begging for mercy from Mazda USA.
Alternately, see if an independent shop can replace the transmission for less than the dealership.

You did not describe how much the color and the size of what they found in the pan. There is metal in all MAZDA transmission pans unless you did or have doing an early pan fluid service and filter change. I am not sure how they determined EXACTLY how the sound was coming from the transmission because the way you are explaining it was heard while simply up on a rack. You need to be using an Audio sound diagnostic tool or at best some simple sound locators touching various parts of the engine and transmission? Also someone needs to be in the car and place the transmission in forward then reverse gear to hear if there is a sound difference. I hope they at least tapped into the TCM to check for any indicators of a computer reported issue? Honestly unless there is a longer version to your service they did not do a very through and proper transmission problem assessment.
