When you do a trans. flush, should all or almost all the fluid be changed out? I just found out today that my recent trans. flush only removed maybe 6 of the 7 quarts of fluid in my 2012 CX9. Does that ring true, or should they have flushed out and replaced essentially all of the fluid?

I have a 2012 CX-9 as well. I have that issue now and again. Ours has 135k+ on it and drives perfectly otherwise.

 

I found that when it shifts hard like that I sit in neutral for a few seconds and it seems to go smoother. I live in an area with a lot of hills and had to get the emergency brake serviced a few times. I believe that contributed to it as well.

 

based on that description you are at a stage of transmission problems that have been building for some time from lack of basic service. My advise to do a simple pan fluid and filter service ASAP so you can physically see what’s in the pan, how much varnish build up you have a better idea by what the pan magnet caught.
