Unhappy Request for Thorough Review: Mischaracterization of Vehicle Damage and Steering Issue

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out to this forum to share my experience and seek your thoughts or similar stories. My name is Dorian, and I’ve been a proud owner of a Mazda CX-9 since leasing it in 2021.

On August 9, 2023, while making a turn, I lightly brushed against the tire of a parked car. The car was parked at an angle, and since I was only going about 5 miles an hour, it resulted in just a noticeable dent on my right passenger door. Initially, I filed a claim with my insurance, but after realizing how much my rates would increase, I closed the claim and handled the repair myself. There was no collision—just that gentle contact that left a dent.

Fast forward to three weeks ago, I started experiencing a loud noise when turning left with my steering wheel. My CX-9 has less than 35K miles and has always been in great condition, as confirmed by my dealership during regular maintenance. They had consistently assured me my car was in excellent shape.

However, the dealership has now claimed that the minor dent caused the steering issue. This is a major concern for me, as it appears to be a technical defect within my Mazda, and resolving it may become costly. I understand my car is nearly four years old and may be out of warranty, but this accusation seems quite unfair and dismissive. All I want from Mazda is to help out with the costs if possible or just to clearly state that it’s out of warranty and that assistance won’t be available. However, implying that this small incident caused such a significant issue is disheartening.

I opened a case with Mazda USA (case number 00284754), but my case manager didn’t review my service history and seemed to dismiss my concerns based on the dealership's feedback.

What’s frustrating is that my case manager suggested I take it up with my insurance, implying that I might be lying about the situation. I want to emphasize that I am not lying, and it’s disheartening to feel this way.

I’m more than willing to bring my car in for a full inspection, and if any prior damage is found that contributed to the steering issue, I will take full responsibility for that.

Has anyone here experienced a similar situation where a minor incident led to unexpected issues with their vehicle? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any advice you may have.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

You would first need to post the service information directly from the dealership. You can redact your personal information.

I will state that there is no evidence or info relating to a dent that now after the time already in service and only now may be steering or suspension related.

Your case number is security protected as it is private between you and Mazda corp.
