Default How to remove rear differential drain bolt?

Hi, so I watched a video on draining rear diff And they used a socket for both drain and fill bolts. Looked easy enough so I go buy the supplies, get the car up on jack stands, get under there and there is a cross member in the way and not enough room to get the ratchet and socket on the drain bolt. Do I need to use a box wrench for that or am I missing something? Now I remember why I stopped working on my cars for the last few years!!!!
Thanks

When you find the way to drain the oil, first loosen the fill plug. If you can't loosen the fill, don't drain the oil out.

I am going to try a 23mm combination wrench but have to order one because nobody in my area has one. I am just confused because the videos I have watched are using a socket for both fill and drain bolts. Hopefully it will work and I will post a picture. Thanks for the advice on making sure to loosen the fill bolt first.
