I am trying to find the right roof rack for a hard shell roof top tent to go on my 2016 with fixed point roof attachment points.
does anyone know where the attachment points are and how many there are?
i can’t remove the strip and check without a big hassle, as there is already a rack installed.
the current bars are too close together, so I’m hoping to find out if I can install a third bar ( is there another set of attachment points?)
OR
if there is another rack system and fixed points that can create bars 30” to 36” apart.
would appreciate your knowledge!

 

This is a 2016 cx 9. Anyone know about the fixation points on the roof?
There is no info in the Mazda website, nor is there in my owners manual.
Alternatively, anyone out there with a hard shell roof top tent on their cx 9?

 

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Anyway...my factory roof rails have six attachment points to the car's roof on each rail. The distances from the edge of the windshield are about 13 & 18", 38 & 43", and 66 & 71". The mounting points on the roof rails for the factory crossbars are about 66 & 71" from the edge of the windshield. I do not know if there are strong points on the roof under these areas. The Thule site shows roof racks systems with a dynamic load rating of 165#. Their page for roof tents says that the static (parked) load max is 3 times the dynamic (driving) load limit.
